Welcome to My Music Ministry

For many years, I considered myself to be a decent songwriter.  I’d write for family, friends, fun, and my own consolation.  Then, in 1999, my friend, Doral Allen, suggested, “Why don’t you write something in Latin, perhaps a performance piece?”  I took her seriously and began composing what would eventually become A Mass for Peace in the Third Millennium.  The Holy Spirit’s inspiration impacted my life and my priorities. From the very start of writing A Mass for Peace, I would actually “hear” the music in my head as I read each liturgical prayer–I didn’t know why or how!  When I played the score for my mentor, Dr. Sharon Girard, she said, “John, there is no way you wrote this by yourself.”  She was right!

I thank God for the gifts, talents, faith, and mentors that He has given to me.  Johann Sebastian Bach was asked, “Why do you write music?”  Bach replied, “The aim and end of all music is nothing less than the glorification of God, and the refreshment of the soul.”  I am certainly not comparing myself to Bach, but I agree with every word he said.

The Angelus Music website is MOSTLY peaceful and prayerful.

The “GOLDEN OLDIES” Page is the exception.  These songs were written in my youth–long before digital recording was a thing.  I recorded the songs on two multi-track, reel-to-reel TEAC tape decks in my home studio.  I was a literally a one-man garage band.  The “Oldies” range from country and novelty songs to love songs, children’s songs, and many personal songs.

May the good Lord bless you †††
